Ceyhun Pehlivan, Managing Partner of Cornerstone Counsel, recently participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the U.S. Commercial Service at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, bringing together professionals from the legal, compliance, artificial intelligence and technology sectors.
The event focused on an increasingly important topic for organisations seeking to leverage artificial intelligence: the strategic value of voice data and the governance challenges associated with its use.
While much of the current AI discussion centres on large language models and emerging applications, many organisations possess significant untapped value within their existing voice archives and conversational data. These datasets can support analytics, operational efficiency, compliance monitoring and AI-driven innovation when managed appropriately.
The discussion highlighted how organisations are increasingly exploring ways to modernise legacy voice records and transform them into structured, governed and AI-ready assets. At the same time, participants examined the legal and compliance considerations that accompany such initiatives, including data governance, privacy, retention obligations, evidential integrity and risk management.
The roundtable provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives with professionals from different disciplines and to explore how legal, regulatory and technological considerations are converging as organisations adopt AI technologies at scale.
Cornerstone Counsel would like to thank the U.S. Commercial Service for hosting the event, the XOVOX team for leading the discussion and Jacqueline O’Hale for the invitation.
As organisations continue to invest in artificial intelligence, discussions such as these demonstrate that data governance remains a critical foundation for successful and responsible AI deployment.
